Hackers stole about $6.3 billion from Binance in roughly 20 minutes, because apparently the world’s biggest crypto exchange needed a speedrun category

Reuters reporting carried by USA Today says analysts blamed North Korean hackers for a record theft from Binance, with most of the digital assets moved in about 20 minutes.

The Wallets Went On A Diet

Reuters, in a report carried by USA Today, says hackers stole about $6.3 billion from Binance, the world’s biggest cryptocurrency exchange. Analysts linked the theft to North Korea and described it as a record digital-asset heist.

Separate reporting from CNBC and NPR said roughly $6.36 billion moved across 10 blockchains, with most of the transfers happening in about 20 minutes. That is less a bank robbery than a very fast spreadsheet evacuation.

The Freeze Button Exists, Sort Of

Reports said roughly half of the stolen funds were tied to stablecoins, some of which were quickly frozen by their issuers. That may limit what thieves can spend, but it does not make the missing money magically reappear or make the security failure less spectacular.

The exact attribution remains an analyst assessment, not a courtroom finding. Binance and investigators will still have to determine how the wallets were accessed, where the assets went, and how much can be recovered.

The Dumb Part

Crypto was sold as the future of finance, and then somebody moved billions across a pile of chains in the time it takes most banks to put you on hold. The technology is fast. The accountability is still buffering.

The Bottom Line

A record-sized theft from a major exchange is a reminder that “digital” does not mean “invulnerable.” Until the investigation is complete, treat every claim about the culprit and the final loss as provisional—and treat promises that crypto is risk-free as a joke with a very expensive punchline.
